Fees & Pricing

v1.01. How BuyChat makes money
BuyChat is a payment-protected marketplace. We hold the buyer's money safely and release it to the seller only after the buyer confirms delivery. We keep the platform running with a small, transparent set of fees — laid out in full below. There are no hidden charges and no surprises at checkout.
In short: buyers pay a small service fee (plus delivery when a rider is involved), and sellers pay a commission on what they sell. That's it.
2. What buyers pay
Service fee — 3% of the item price. A flat 3% platform fee is added to your order and shown clearly at checkout before you pay.
Delivery fee — ₦700 for orders that need a rider. Delivery is free on orders of ₦20,000 or more. Services and digital items have no delivery fee. For rides and dispatch, the delivery/fare is agreed with the rider (see below).
Example: on a ₦10,000 product you pay ₦300 service fee + ₦700 delivery = ₦11,000 total. Your ₦10,300 (item + service fee) is held safely by BuyChat until you confirm delivery; the ₦700 goes to your dispatcher.
3. What sellers pay (commission)
Sellers pay a commission on each completed sale, taken from the payout (never added to the buyer's price). The rate depends on what you sell:
- Products — 8%
- Services — 10%
- Food — 12%
- Stays & short-lets — 10%
- Laundry & logistics — 10%
Commission is calculated on the item subtotal and deducted automatically when your payment is released. Your wallet shows the exact net amount for every sale.
4. Rides
For rides, the platform keeps 15% of the fare and the driver keeps 85%. The fare is quoted up front based on distance and vehicle type; on a ₦3,000 ride the driver earns ₦2,550 and BuyChat keeps ₦450.
Dispatch and delivery jobs are priced by distance and can be negotiated with the rider before you accept.
5. How the money splits (worked example)
Here is exactly where every naira goes on a ₦10,000 product order:
| Item price (subtotal) | ₦10,000 |
| + Service fee (3%) | ₦300 |
| + Delivery fee | ₦700 |
| Buyer pays | ₦11,000 |
| Seller receives (₦10,000 − 8% commission) | ₦9,200 |
| Dispatcher receives (delivery) | ₦700 |
| BuyChat keeps (service fee + commission) | ₦1,100 |
The ₦10,300 (item + service fee) is held safely by BuyChat from the moment you pay until you confirm delivery. If something goes wrong, our team steps in and your money is protected. If you don't confirm within 72 hours of delivery, payment releases automatically so honest sellers aren't left waiting.
6. Withdrawals
Moving your wallet balance to your bank costs a flat ₦100 per withdrawal, with a ₦1,000 minimum. We do not take a percentage. The bank transfer itself is handled by Paystack and that cost is absorbed by BuyChat — you are never charged a gateway fee to withdraw.
7. Cash on delivery
On eligible orders you can pay the dispatcher in cash at your door. The fees are exactly the same as paying online — the dispatcher collects the full total and remits it, the seller is credited their net, and BuyChat keeps its service fee and commission. Cash on delivery is capped at ₦50,000 per order and is only available where the seller has enabled it.
8. What we do NOT charge
- No hidden fees — everything is shown before you pay.
- No payment-gateway surcharge passed on to you when you fund your wallet or pay for an order.
- No fee to browse, chat with Aisha, list a product, or receive an offer.
- No separate VAT added by BuyChat on top of these fees.
9. Changes to fees
We may adjust these fees over time. Any change is reflected on this page and applied only to orders placed after the change — a placed order is always settled on the fees shown when you paid.
10. Questions
Not sure what a fee means on your order? Just ask Aisha in the app — she knows this fee structure and can explain your exact charges. You can also reach us at [email protected].
